May is Asian-American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month. The month honors the many contributions and achievements of the AAPI community. According to the 2020 census, 24 million people in the US fall under the umbrella of AAPI, and the Pew Research Center has found that Asian-Americans are the fastest-growing ethnic group in America. May also commemorates the immigration of the first Japanese people to the US, as well as Golden Spike Day (May 10, 1869), which marked the completion of the transcontinental railroad, largely built by Chinese laborers. Our EveryAge locations have been honoring the AAPI community this month, including with culinary tributes like making Asian dumplings with residents and participants and serving Korean lettuce wraps and tandoori chicken in our dining rooms. #AAPIHeritageMonth #AsianAmerican #EveryAge ... Each May, Older Americans Month is observed through presidential proclamation. During those four weeks, the nation recognizes the contributions of older Americans while noting aging trends and reaffirming commitments to serve the older adults in our communities. The theme for 2024 is 'Powered by Connection,' which recognizes the profound impact that meaningful relationships and social connections have on our health and well-being. So many gorgeous plants are in bloom this time of year, that we made a special trip to The Mariana H. Qubein Arboretum & Botanical Gardens on the campus of High Point University to see the beauty there. Thanks to our Life Enrichment program, our residents got a guided tour and caught glimpses of the 30 gardens featuring 350 trees and 2,500 plants. They also enjoyed the various sculptures that accented the gardens and added an artistic counterpoint to the natural plantings. #piedmontcrossing #HighPointNC #gardens #LifelongLearning #springinthesouth ...
