Our residents had a visit from local royalty this week! Taylor Foley, Miss Thomasville, and Sevyn Harrold, Miss Davidson County's Teen, dropped by to say 'hello' and to treat the residents to vocal performances. Taylor's motto during her year as Miss Thomasville is 'SMILE: Sharing Moments, Inspiring, and Loving Elders.' Sevyn's community service initiative is 'Spreading Kindness One Cup at a Time.' Both of these young women definitely embody those themes! We appreciate their thoughtfulness in spending time with our seniors, and we wish them the best of luck in their upcoming pageants! #piedmontcrossing #seniorliving #thomasvillenc #davidsoncountync #accomplishedwomen #beautyandbrains ... This week, some of our residents took part in a 3-day, immersive Spanish class! The instructor was Becky Foust, a Piedmont Crossing resident who taught Spanish for 25 years at Central Davidson High School. Students were expected to attend each day with a notebook to document the lessons, and they had to complete homework each evening as well. At the end of the workshop, we hosted a graduation party to celebrate all the hard work and accomplishment! Our residents loved the chance to be in the classroom again, and they learned so many practical phrases and helpful tips! #piedmontcrossing #lifelonglearning #SeniorLiving #spanishlessons #CulturalAwareness ... Each year, June 19, or Juneteenth, recalls the date in 1865 when all enslaved African-Americans in the US were made aware of the Emancipation Proclamation and were officially released from their bonds – some two years after President Abraham Lincoln had initially signed the proclamation. Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021 when President Biden signed it into law. Celebrations include picnics, rodeos, street fairs, cookouts, family reunions, park parties, historical reenactments, and blues festivals.
